MADAME GRES-c.1970 Green Silk Taffeta Evening Gown, Bust 38

Madame Grés

Stunning and VERY rare is this c.1970 couture evening gown in a dark forest green silk taffeta. My opinion is the gown was a special request from a 1950s model. It's the same gown only with a more modest bodice.  The gown has a scoop neckline and is dart fitted at the bust. The darts flow from the bust points down through the waist and into the hips to the dropped waistline seam. Slender skirt falls beneath the waistline with a slit up the side seam. Full gathered overskirt falls from the waist seam with a graduated hemline. Small gathered ruffle also drops from the waist between the two skirts to help create the lift needed for the overskirt.  Back left side zipper closure and snap and hook closures on the left shoulder. Matching full circle cape or stole is slit up to the center so it wraps perfectly around the body. The dress and cape are not lined.

Condition: There is one tiny dot stain on the lower right side front waistline and four tiny dots on the back right side near the armscye. I know I saw a couple tiny dots on the gathers of the skirt, but to the life of me I can't find them now. There are 2" diagonal darts from the armscyes to the bust that are not original.
